The Annual Tennis Tournament of the Consular Corps took place on two consecutive Saturdays due to weather conditions, on the 17th and 24th of October 2009 at the Athens Lawn Tennis Club.

Mr. Cristian Font Calderon, Counsellor of the Embassy of Spain and Mr. Nektarios Polychroniou, Honorary Consul of Botswana made it to the finals for the singles. All the finalists played an exciting and hard game. The winner was Mr. Nektarios Polychroniou, and the runner up was Mr. Cristian Font Calderon. Third place went to Mr. Igor Povzyk, Consul of the Embassy Ukraine. The final match for the Doubles has been postponed due to rain, but the finalists (in the following pairs) are:

Ambassador of Ukraine, Mr. Valerie Tsybukh with Mr. Igor Povzyk, Consul of the Embassy Ukraine. Mr. Oka Okazuo, Embassy of Japan with Mr. Kostas Kotsilinis, Honorary Consul General of New Zealand. Cristian Font Calderon, Counsellor of the Embassy of Spain andMr. Nektarios Polychroniou, Honorary Consul of Botswana It is important to mention that Mr. Okazuo of the Embassy Japan, who has participated and won a number of titles in previous CCG tennis tournaments during the last 15 years participated once more in this year’s tournament and offered us a spectacular performance. Diplomats from the Russian Embassy and the Ambassador of Serbia also participated.

The winners of the Doubles Finals will be posted on the site once they have been played. For those members who were unable to participate due to limited availability of tennis courts, we hope to accommodate them in next year’s spring tournament. |
