The Consular Corps in Greece held its Annual New Year’s Vassilopita cutting with a magnificent reception at the Yacht Club
of Greece in Piraeus on Saturday, 21st January 2012.

In a room overlooking the picturesque Mikrolimano, which gave the impression that you are on a ship ready to sail for the next trip, representatives of 60 countries raised their glasses and exchanged wishes for health, peace and prosperity. Among them were Ambassadors, Career Diplomats, Honorary Consuls as well as Professors and friends of the Consular Corps in Greece.

The reception commenced with greetings and wishes to the attendees by the President of the Consular Corps in Greece and Honorary Consul of Ethiopia, Mrs. Terina Kalogeropoulos Armenakis, the Vice President of the Board and Counsellor in the Embassy of Spain Mr. Cristian Font Calderon and Mr. Miguel Capuano Molho, Honorary Consul of Nicaragua and member of the Board.

The Members of the Board awarded the Honorary Consul General of Liberia and Honorary President of the Consular Corps Cpt. Nikolaos Soutos for his support and contribution to the Corps with a commemorative tray engraved with the initials of the Consular Corps.

Mrs Marietta Kontogiannis, Journalist with deep knowledge on Greek traditions explained the custom of the cutting of “Vassilopita”. Two coins were found by two participants who received a commemorative gift of four-leaf clover designed by Stylia and engraved with the initials of the Corps.
The lucky ones were Mr. Iraklis Ieronimakis Honorary Consul of Portugal and the representative of the Honorary Consulate of Poland in Piraeus.

The splendid hospitality of the Yacht Club, the delicious dishes and the exceptional music by the musician and singer Mr. Dimitris Katakouzenos contributed to a memorable event.
